Ridge Partners has sought to verify the efficacy and output of the PPI Gasification Technology by conducting full scale testing of the system. The primary challenge presented to Ridge is that this exact system does not exist in one place anywhere in the world. The equipment is available but is spread out over the United States, therefore a plan was formulated by Ridge to replicate the Jaibon process by moving the MSW to the equipment instead of the vice versa.
On May 9th, 2019, 2000 lbs. of MSW pellets were processed at the Rockwood Facility in Ozone TN owned and operated by PPI. In attendance were representatives of RPLN, PPI, AON, ARGO, BHS, Loesche, Andritz and APTIM. The material was processed over a six-hour production run.
The tests exceeded original expectations by a significant margin. Original yield estimates were based on the Rockwood plant’s operational data using poplar wood as the sole source of feedstock. RDF pellets differ from wood pellets in that the calorific content of RDF is higher than that of wood pellets. This increased the yield significantly beyond original expectations.
The fuel produced during the testing was sent to an independent laboratory for quality testing and the results were excellent with the fuel exceeeding the ASTM D-975 standard with Sulfur content being low enough to easily qualify the fuel as Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel in the US or Optimo in the Dominican Republic.
Tom Kluber, CEO of Ridge Partners said “ We are very pleased with the results of this testing and this gives us the opportunity to move forward towards the successful completion of the first project of its kind in the Dominican Republic.”
