Ridge Partners Linea Noroeste S.A. in conjunction with the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (The Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic) held the first public meeting in Cruces de Guyacanes.
This meeting was held in order to present information about the project to the general public and to answer questions that the public might have concerning every aspect of the project. 86 people were present at the meeting which lasted for several hours. In attendance were members of the public, the press, mayors of participating communities, local firemen and the national police.
Representatives of Ridge Partners Linea Noroeste included Mr. Tom Kluber, CEO, Mr. Allan Marley, COO, Mr. Scott Smith VP Industrial Operations and Mr. Cesar Pena, President of Cadel Inc. environmental consultant to the project. Also presenting the project were representatives from Medio Ambiente headed by Ms. Piroska Zarzuela. The public meeting is required by the regulations of the Dominican Republic as part of the process of permitting the Municipal Solid Waste to Synthetic Diesel Fuel project.
There was a presentation of the details of the project, the process, the raw material (MSW) and the products produced. There was a description of the facility, the number of new jobs that would be created by the project as well as discussions of truck traffic, potential smell, noise and emissions and potential impact to quality of life for nearby residents.
There was a Question and Answer Period where members of the public were allowed to ask any questions regardless of subject to the officials. The discussion was open and transparent and well received by the members of the community. Persons with follow-up questions were given contact information of company officials in order to discuss specific matters more thoroughly.
At the end of the meeting representatives of Medio Ambiente asked for a show of hands of who was in favor of the project. All but a handful of people of the 86 attendees raised their hands.
